Partner: Action
Medeor, Germany
Duration:
Twelve calendar months
Status: Ongoing
Location: Ave-Afiadenyigba,
Volta Region.
Project Summary:
Ghana has made significant progress in
improving several aspects of Health Care system, with the recent
introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Nevertheless, many poor and deprived communities in the Akatsi District
of the Volta Region like the Ave traditional area lack rudimentary
access to appropriate healthcare services. There are high incidences of
maternal and child mortality according to findings of a pre-project
feasibility and a wide range of factors impair the healthy rights of
poor women and children. Malaria related mortality remains unacceptably
high and accounts for more the 57% of all out patient cases in the
district This program is aimed at improving maternal and child health
in the Ave traditional area through increasing access to quality
healthcare for the people through the construction of a community
health centre. The health centre is expected to increase access to
quality healthcare and provide the following services
- Maternal and Child healthcare
(pre-natal, delivery and post natal care)
- Diagnosis and treatment of common
disease (malaria, anemia etc)
Care Net will also educate the
beneficiary communities to utilize the services of the heath centre and
also to register with the Health Insurance Scheme in order to enjoy
affordable healthcare. Care Net will also train traditional birth
attendants (TBAs) in hard to reach communities to act as primary
contacts for pregnant women and encourage TBAs to make prompt and
timely referrals.
